T4 students experience mock interviews

On Thursday Mar. 7, the students in social studies teacher Paul Kitchen’s Teaching Tomorrow’s Teachers Today (T4) were assigned a mock interview.

“We have done it every year,” Kitchen said. “It is part of the class.”

Teachers from Wichita State University’s Department of Education and downtown employees of Wichita Public Schools were asked to come and interview the his students for a general teaching job.

“Usually the students get to pick the school they are interviewing for and research it,” he said. “But with the loss of snow days we couldn’t do that this year.”

Even though the assignment had shifted due to the weather, the students still had to participate in it.

“[It helped] to get us prepared for how it is going to be when we are interviewed to be a teacher,” junior Erica Edison said.

Though there were nerves, Edison was grateful for the opportunity.

“It was not like anything I thought it would be,” Edison said. “I thought it was a good experience and we learned a lot.”
