For everyone, freshman year is a time that you experience new things like joining in on new
school activities like Homecoming! Homecoming week includes the pep rally, the big
football game and the highly anticipated homecoming dance. Homecoming week can be
an exciting and fun, but it can also be thrilling for new students like freshmen since it’s their
first time participating in these activities. To get a glimpse of what it’s like attending
homecoming for the first time, I spoke with Elenora Cox, who shared their thoughts on
attending homecoming festivities for the first time.

How are you feeling about attending your first high school homecoming?
I’m really excited, like honestly I don’t know if it’s going to be like what I see in the movies,
but I’m really excited!

What do you see in the movies about homecoming?
I think of the Homecoming signs, the game, the homecoming king and queen.
What are you most excited about: spirit week, the game or the dance and why?
It has to be the dance; I am so excited for the dance. It’s going to be my first Highschool
dance EVER, that’s why I’m excited. But also, the second one has to be the spirit week
because it just sounds fun. I like dressing up, like in stupid outfits.

Are you thinking about participating in spirit week? If so, how will that boost yours and
other students’ school spirit?
I probably will participate, um, I think it would just be fun. I don’t really know how it will like
boost the school spirit but also I kind of see how it would make people enjoy the week
more!

Have you picked on an outfit yet, or maybe thought of an idea of what you’re going to
wear based off the theme of this year?
I have not picked out an outfit yet for the dance, but I have an idea. I think I’ll be wearing a
blue dress with some like gold jewelry. I don’t really know how I will do my hair yet but
that’s okay~ and I am probably going to be wearing some sort of heels.

How do you feel about the homecoming theme?
Ohh yes! I’m SO excited for the starry night theme. It just sounds so fun! I’m- I cannot-
Oh my gosh! —it’s just sounds like a fun theme. Maybe it’s like a little basic but it still
sounds like fun. Just cause it’s something easy to find outfits for, I guess. Like the colors, they are so pretty.

What music genre are you expecting / anticipating being played on the dance floor?
I actually have no idea. I don’t know what it’s going to be like, for like the middle school
dances it was like just requests and most of the requests were like rap and music like that.
So, I’m kind of assuming it’s going to be like kind of like the same genre people would ask
for, like rap I guess.. stuff like that but it still sounds fun to dance to.

What have you heard about homecoming that you’re excited for?
So I kind of haven’t heard anything about homecoming, but I’m just excited to be there, I
guess.

Do you have any plans on doing/going somewhere before / after the dance with
someone?
I have absolutely no idea or plans yet.

Who do you plan on going with and how are you thinking on asking them?
I’m going with my best friend, just together because we match, I guess. We already had
plans to go. So yeah…

What changes would you like to see in our school?
Better security since what happened like a few days ago was so crazy, like we had to go on
lockdown, and that was very scary.

What does homecoming mean to you as a new student?
I feel like I guess it just unites people, you know? Cause the football game; there’s going to
be like so many people coming, like from the middle school Wilbur and like I’ve heard a lot
of my family coming just to reunite I guess and I’ve also heard that people have reunions
there a lot of times like high school reunions.

Looking ahead, what do you hope to remember most about your very first homecoming?            I just hope I remember the experience itself like what It was like, my first ever high school
dance and what it meant to me.
